5. The Golden Ass

The Golden Ass
Lucius Apulies

Okay, elephant in the room, a woman slept with a donkey.  Not totally creeped out?  Think about it when you are in bed tonight and believe me, you will be.  This is actually the only Latin novel to survive in complete form which is random, not useful information but still cool.  I found it hard to like this book because the author does not really give you a chance to fall in love with the character and then you are stuck with him for the whole book.  My favorite part was actually the Cupid and Psyches story which is often ridiculed.

OMG I love your first sentence. You have a very witty way of conveying the truth about these books and your thoughts. Bravo!

So, Amanda, I think we have the first match on the book list. Those two lists are really different. This one was sufficiently strange and juicy to be interesting, but I agree, we never get to like Lucius. In fact some of the thing he does is outright stupid. The story with the donkey is very much out there, but the following story of the murderous wife actually creeps me out even more.

I am glad there is some overlap, because I really like reading 1001 book blogs (there aren't a lot of them) and your thoughts are always interesting. There is probably more overlap later on. I hope Burney is on your list as I want to see what you think.
